How to choose

  1. Who calls cars? Staff entering tag numbers, parents' phones (geofence or a check-in link), or cameras (license plate or RFID)?
  2. Who sees the result? A staff device only, a live board for classrooms and hallways, or families too?
  3. Do you want a parent app? It adds visibility for families, and also some support work for the office.
  4. How is it priced? Per campus, per student, or by quote? Is there a free trial, and does it need a credit card?
  5. How much scope? Dismissal only, or a full safety suite with visitor management and emergency tools?

Tool by tool

1. PickupRoster

A live pickup board in the browser. Each school gets its own address, staff call cars from a phone or tablet, and every classroom, hallway and staff screen updates at the same moment. Students get a default dismissal plan (car line, walker, bus, after-school, office pickup or other) with recurring exceptions. Viewer PINs and magic links are limited to your school, and English and Spanish come with every plan. Drill tools include 12 starter templates with a live roll and an after-action report, and Campus adds a drill replay timeline. A K-12 school in Maryland has used it for over two years. Trade-off: it doesn't include visitor management or hall passes.

2. PikMyKid (now part of CENTEGIX)

A mature dismissal platform with a free parent app, car tags, bus/walker/after-school check-in, carpools and emergency reunification. CENTEGIX acquired it in April 2026 and brought it under the CENTEGIX brand in October 2026. A Free Car Line tier covers a basic car line with 5 staff users. More detail: PikMyKid alternatives.

3. SchoolPass (Raptor Technologies)

A broad campus-operations suite covering carline automation, attendance, visitor management, emergency attendance, buses and after-school activities. Cars can be identified by license-plate cameras, handheld RFID or parent GPS check-in. A good fit for security-focused campuses that can support a camera installation. More detail: SchoolPass vs PickupRoster.

4. Raptor DismissalSafe

Raptor's dismissal product supports carline, carpools, buses, walkers and after-school activities, and parents manage dismissal plans and changes in the Raptor Safe App. Pricing is by quote, and Raptor products are also available through cooperative purchasing agreements such as BuyBoard and TIPS.

5. Ruvna Dismissal

Built for independent schools. Each student gets a recurring weekly plan, multi-step plans (an activity, then pickup) are supported, and every action is logged. Ruvna's FAQ says a parent portal isn't available yet and is a priority. Pricing is quoted (flat rate for smaller schools, per student for larger ones), with demos but no trials.

6. QManager

Parents' phones share their arrival when they enter the school's geofence, and staff see the line in order, with vehicle details, on an iPad or browser. It syncs with Veracross and Blackbaud, and with other systems through GG4L. Plans start at $995 for the first year (usually $1,295), with a 30-day trial and no credit card.

7. Carline.app

A cloud-based carline tool with configurable queues, loading zones, staff roles, analytics and an audit trail. Pricing is $0.15 per student per month (minimum 50 students), with a 30-day trial that needs a credit card.

8. Schoolhouse Driveline

Staff key in Family ID numbers from car placards, and student names and a color-coded pickup location appear on classroom smartboards, projectors or any browser. No parent app, by design. $748 for the first year including a 60-day free trial, then $935 a year per campus, with no per-student fees.

9. Carline Hound

A line walker enters hang-tag numbers on a phone app, a large display shows the list in the assembly area, and a line marshal dismisses each group. It's for staff, not parents. $33 a month or $299 a year per school, with a 30-day free trial.

10. PickupLink

Parents get an emailed check-in link and tap "I'm here" from the car line. The check-in is verified against the school's geofence, and teachers see who has arrived on a live board. No app and no parent accounts. $299 a year for up to 300 students or $799 a year for up to 1,000, with custom pricing above that.

11. PickUp Patrol

Parents change dismissal plans in a parent portal, teachers get daily lists, and a car line dispatcher tells classrooms when rides arrive. It also prints car tags and bus passes and integrates with SIS platforms. Pricing is tailored to school size, with no setup fees and a 60-day free trial.

12. PLACA.AI

Reads license plates to queue students, and staff approve every release. Its LineCam is a solar-powered 4G camera: $1,399 per camera, plus $99 a month per camera and $45 a month for data. It offers one-lane, one-grade and afternoon-only pilots.

13. Time To Dismiss

Staff scan a tag or select a ride share, and students appear on every classroom display with large, high-contrast names. It runs on laptops, tablets, projectors and TVs from a link, with no app installs. Pricing isn't published; demos are by request.

Frequently asked questions

What is school dismissal software?

How much does school dismissal software cost?

Among the tools above that publish prices, costs range from $299 a year per school to several thousand dollars a year, and camera systems add hardware and monthly fees. The larger safety suites quote each school individually.

Do we need a parent app?

Not necessarily. Several tools, including Schoolhouse Driveline, Carline Hound and PickupLink, are designed to work without one. Others, such as QManager, rely on parents using an app.

What is a school pickup board?

A live display showing which students' rides have arrived and where to go, so students head to the right pickup spot without radio calls. See the school pickup board.

Which tools offer a free trial?

From the vendors' own pages: PickupRoster and QManager offer 30 days with no credit card, Carline.app offers 30 days with a card, Carline Hound offers 30 days, and Schoolhouse Driveline and PickUp Patrol offer 60 days.
